Visually Impaired Resources

Are you or someone you know visually impaired?
Are you having a hard time reading print materials?

If so, we have some resources for you. In addition to a sizeable Large Print collection of books, we also have books on CD. Don’t have a CD player? We now have small, portable CD players that you can borrow for three weeks.

We also partner with The New York State Talking Book and Braille Library, which assists with sending materials directly to your home. Eligible NY residents who have a visual impairment, are blind, or have a physical condition that makes holding a book difficult have access to a variety of audiobooks and magazines, audio players and accessories, downloadable books and magazines, and Braille books, e-Braille, and magazines. You can have items delivered to your home at no cost or download for listening on the app, supplied players or compatible player. All of these services are provided for free. All you need to do is fill out an application which we have on hand at the Library. The approval process takes approximately seven days and new patrons receive a welcome packet within two weeks which includes additional information and instructions.

For those who have a smartphone or tablet, there are also apps available for borrowing e-audiobooks through the Westchester Library System. Our librarians will be happy to assist you in downloading the apps and setting up your account.

For additional information on any of these resources, please contact the Adult Reference desk at 914-337-7680 ext. 824.
