PBS Books will host a virtual conversation with renowned children’s author Andrea Beaty discussing her latest books on Sofia Valdez & the Vanishing Vote; One Girl on Tuesday, December 1 at 5pm ET | 2pm PT.
In her newest book Sofia Valdez & the Vanishing Vote, Sofia Valdez the democratic process in second grade when her class gets to vote on their class pet–a turtle or bird. Sofia, whose character first debuted in Sofia Valdez, Future Prez, is named the Election Commissioner and is in charge of overseeing a fair and honest election between the two teams: Team Turtle and Team Bird. After the campaign and the votes are counted, it is a tie, but one vote is missing. What happened to the vanishing vote? Sophia Valdez and the Questioneers must restore democracy.
