The Common Application Essay and the “Why This College” Supplemental Essay
The college essay and supplemental responses are an integral component of the college application process and the student’s big chance to let their voice be heard. After the high school transcript, and for some schools even the SAT or ACT scores, the essays are probably the most important piece of the college application. By using imagery and examples, students can recreate a small part of their life for the admissions officer. The purpose of the “Why us?” or “Why this college” essay is to demonstrate–through specific details and examples–why a student is a great match for a particular school.
